INTERMEDIATE/SEMI-LITERATE. this is, of course, the median between beginner and advanced. basically, that means that you’re moving towards the territory of getting into in depth posts, but you’re not quite there yet. you’ll be expected to post between 300-700 words here, and your sentences should be well developed, and something that you wouldn’t be embarrassed to show your english teacher. you’ll probably be expected to post one or two paragraphs, with content that has quality that people can respond to. you’re moving up in the rping world, and you’ll be expected to act as such with your posts. but don’t stress, because you’re not at the point where your posts need to be the length of a three page paper, but you’re not at the beginner level anymore, so do us all a favor and push yourself to become better and post well.
ADVANCED/LITERATE. yeah, they’re called both. you’ve probably seen that definition, and you may or may not be entirely sure what it means, regardless of how long you’ve been rping. as someone who posts 1600 words or more per post, it gets somewhat annoying when a person joins an advanced/literate site and isn’t sure of the exact definition. while this can vary from site to site, you can always be sure that you need to post more than 700 words, and that’s being really generous. when a site says that you need to post three to four good paragraphs, that doesn’t mean a few lines and then using the enter key and thinking that you have a paragraph. a paragraph is 7-12 good sentences, which explore your character’s thoughts, emotions, past, future, and actions. these sentences should be written well, with thought really put into them. as always, use the person that you’re rping with as a jumping off point. it’s always really great when the person that you’re rping with matches your posts, so on an advanced/literate site, that is to be expected. what does matching a post mean? that means writing a good post, that’s not just a bunch of filler stuff with no meaning to move the plot or character development along. of course if you can’t post 1600 words when someone responds to your post, that’s entirely okay, but you need to try to get within 400 words of their post. push yourself, i’m sure that you all can do it. your writing will improve drastically, and i’m sure that rping will be more enjoyable for you.
AND REMEMBER. while it is important to join a site that is near your posting level and not above, it is equally important to avoid joining a site where you know that you’ll be posting more. for example, if you post in 1000-2000 word range, don’t join a site that states themselves as intermediate/semi-literate. you wouldn’t want someone who can only post 500 words rping with you when you’re posting double or triple that, and they won’t want to rp with you if you’re on their ‘turf’. no one likes a show off, and you won’t enjoy it if you’re posting a ton and you’re not getting proper responses. so please use your own good judgment, and don’t join a site where you think that you’ll be above the people who are members or you aren’t sure if you’ll be able to keep up with those posting, just don’t join. and above all, no matter what ‘level’ you’re at with rping, please remember that chat speak is for 11 year olds who just discovered aim, and spell check is your best friend. incorrect grammar is for losers, and throwing in words for the sake of having more words is pointless and makes you look bad. although they might have seemed tedious at the time, the things you learned/are learning in english class are useful. apply them here.

RANDOM NOTES FROM WILLOW
SPAMMING THE CBOX. we all assume that this means no ads, or being a bad girl or posting things over and over and over again, right? okay, well i need to clarify, because lately there’s been a lot of problems with this. the cbox is OOC. that means out of character. if you want to plot out your characters, do so in the plotting/shipping section, or over aim with the person that you’re plotting with. don’t advertise your character, say that you’ve posted a plot, etc, and don’t harass people about plotting. what else is considered spamming? harassing other people. not in the way that we’ve all heard, like name calling, etc, no, i’m talking about harassing people about unanswered pms, or unchecked apps, or responses to posts. yes, we know that you pmed us, or posted or responded. but unless you’re insanely creepy, we all have lives outside of rping. so be patient. if your application hasn’t been checked in 3 days, feel free to pm an admin, but please, please keep it out of the cbox. the cbox is there so that you can get to know your fellow members, and form relationships, and have fun outside of just rping with your characters. so take advantage of that, and don’t abuse the cbox, because you’ll be banned without a second thought, and that’s never fun.
STAY SAFE. these days, i hate to say it, but people tend to be insanely trusting on the internet. please remember that although you may chat with someone for months on end, you do not know these people in real life, and on the internet it’s perfectly easy to pretend to be someone that you’re not. don’t think that because someone is sending you pictures that they are who they say they are. they may very well be, but everyone has access to facebook, myspace and google images these days, and it’s just as easy to save a picture from there as it is to save a picture of your favorite celebrity. i’d say about 9 times out of 10, at least in the rping world around caution, etc that features the same people, the people you’re talking to are who they say they are. but please always remember to account for the 1 out of 10 that is the liar. trust your gut, because if something doesn’t feel right, that means that it’s not. contact an admin on the site and let them know that you’re feeling uncomfortable, because believe me, if you are, then the admin is probably feeling something similar. and if nothing is done, or you remain feeling uneasy in the situation, just remove yourself. don’t feel bad about ditching a site, or whatever, because believe me, people will understand. be careful when posting your picture, or if you must, do what i do and black out your eyes. this subtlety will keep you safer than it would if you just posted a picture. never give out personal information, and whatever. yes, this all may seem like common knowledge, but here in the rping world we all tend to get comfortable with each other, and even if you’ve formed a relationship with someone and have been talking to them on aim for months and months, PLEASE remember that you don’t know them in real life, and they could be lying about pretty much everything. so use caution (no pun intended haha) and stay safe, because we want you to stick around.

DEFINITIONS AND RANDOM INFORMATION
-----------------------------------
lately i’ve found that when joining a site, there are people that
aren’t quite sure what some of the rpg definitions are in terms
of posting expectations. i know that i didn’t when i first started
rping, and it completely sucks to get yelled at by an admin b-
ecause you don’t know a definition and you do something wro-
ng. so here you go, this is the answer to all of your problems.
