Howlingwind raised his head, gazing out at the blue glow of early dawn. A soft rain showered down on the quiet camp, bringing more life to the forest that Thunderclan called home. It was still only New-leaf. At times, it certainly felt like time was moving slowly, while others, he would stop and think, and realize how much time had passed. "It's been nearly...four season cycles, since I came to the Clans..." He whispered softly to himself after stepping out of his nest from the Warrior's den, and out into the forest where he found a place to feel at peace, sitting down under the shelter of a tree. "It was only six moons that I spent with my old Twolegs, and yet that was a very major part of my life, since...I haven't forgotten about it by now..." By now, water was dripping from his whiskers from the rain that poured on him from the tree above. "So much for shelter..."

"And to think, I didn't take you to being much of a water type." Pumpkinflower purred light, joining her old mentor under the shade of the tree. In honest, she never minded the rain. It was calming and it helped new things grow.
"What made you get up this early? I though you took evening patrol and now your up before dawn patrol...What an over-achiever you are, Howlingwind. Though I don't blame you; I love watching the sunrise even if its raining." She meowed with a small smile.

Howlingwind looked over in surprise, but the scent was very familiar, and comforting. "Not at all. I just wanted to get out and think." He purred in reply, chuckling softly and flicking raindrops off his whiskers. "But it's a good thing. This forest needs the rain to grow the leaves that protect us." He meowed pleasantly.
He chuckled again to himself at Pumpkinflower's comment, even though it did make him wonder, Am I working to hard? He was a deputy, so it was his responsibility to do his best for the Clan, but he had sometimes wondered how he should feel, ever since Whitesplash had died. But it had always been his nature to try to not bother anyone else with his feelings, and to continue working as hard as he always had been. "It's beautiful, isn't it?" He agreed about the sunrise.

"Yeah it is. I love sunrises. Everytime I watch one it tells me that even if you've had a bad day the sun will always come out to great you without fail..." Pumpkinflower meowed softly settling down besides Howlingwind. She cared deeply for her old mentor and she knew he cared for her because if he didn't she probably wouldn't be where the type of cat she was.
She pressed her pelt lightly against his. "I'm sorry if I've ever cause you trouble or pain, because you've always been there for me and I want you to know I'll always been here for you, Howlingwind. I love you, Howlingwind. You mean a lot to me." She meowed honestly.

Howlingwind nodded. "Always, every day, with out fail. It is the one consistent thing in our world, and the sun will continue to rise for the rest of eternity." He purred. He truly did care deeply for Pumpkinflower, his very first apprentice, and one of his best friends. He knew that if he had never met Pumpkinflower, he would have never become the great warrior he was, and he knew he would have probably have never come to terms with his past, and accepted himself as he was. He may have been the one to mentor and guide Pumpkinflower, but he also had so much to be grateful to her for.
Smiling at Pumpkinflower and blinking his amber eyes slowly, he gazed at her deep blue eyes with gratitude. "You've never caused me any trouble at all, Pumpkinflower." he replied gently. "Thank you, and I will always be here for you too, if ever you need it." He promised honestly. Purring warmly, he meowed truthfully. "And I you, Pumpkinflower. You are one of the most important cats in the world to me." He felt like when he was with Pumpkinflower, he could tell his old apprentice anything at all. It was a bond as deep as friendship and trust could get.

Pumpkinflower smiled warmly up at Howlingwind. She felt comfortable around Howlingwind. He felt like her family. The family which was taken from her at a young age. It made her smile knowing Howlingwind and Emberpaw were part of her dysfunctional family. "I have let you down, Howlingwind. You never trusted my friendship with the RiverClan warrior, Cloudfeather. He was nice to me and made me feel special... I needed to feel cared for." She meowed softly.
She did like Cloudfeather, it was true. He was starting to replace the hole in her heart when Yangheart died. "I need to feel loved, Howlingwind. Everyone had it besides me and I wanted it too."

Howlingwind blinked in surprise, remembering that awkward event the other day. What? So that was why Pumpkinflower was so defensive, like as if she thought I was going to get her in trouble? He realized, the little facts fitting together. But there wasn't any reason to keep anything from him, nor anything from her. Looking at Pumpkinflower seriously, he meowed. "Pumpkinflower, why would you ever think I don't trust you? You're a very kind warrior, with a gentleness in your heart that is strong enough to move others'. I mentored you myself, and I know you are a very wonderful warrior, and a blessing to Thunderclan. Don't think that you have let me down in any way, for you have done no such thing." He meowed firmly, but with honesty in his voice. Pumpkinflower was no longer his apprentice anymore, but as a senior warrior, the deputy, and Pumpkinflower's friend, he would always help a friend in any way that he could.
Howlingwind's eyes deepened with sorrow, his thoughts flickering with memories of his deceased mate, Whitesplash, and then of his deceased daughter, Mousekit. "I've...for a brief time....experienced what it felt like...to be loved, and cared for." He hesitated a bit over the memories, but then he shook his head and flicked the raindrops from his whiskers. I can't keep mourning over it. I have to raise Emberpaw and Brightpaw. They need me now, as their father. The clan needs me, as its Deputy. He told himself, once again. He touched his tail comfortingly to Pumpkinflower's side, gazing kindly into her blue eyes. "You are loved, Pumpkinflower. You are loved by Thunderclan. By me, Tigerstar, Emberpaw, everyone. We care for each other, and love each other, like a family. That is the beauty of living in a Clan." He meowed sincerely.

"And I wouldn't ask for anything more, Howlingwind. I love our Clan more than anything, but sometimes I can't help but wonder if there is more I could do..." Pumpkinflower meowed honestly to her deputy. She let her gaze fall to her paws.
"I don't know if I'm cut out to being just a warrior anymore. I want more. I want a family of my own." She meowed softly without looking up. It was just her luck that ThunderClan would have less options for her, hat she would consider looking elsewhere for a mate.

Howlingwind smiled. "You've done more than anyone could ask for." He purred, his words sincere. He was always happy to be there for Pumpkinflower, and was always willing to cheer up his friends in any way that he could.
At Pumpkinflower's next statement, he nodded, understanding what she meant. "You want to find a mate and have a litter of kits." He guessed, the question more a statement, his eyes softening with understanding and kindness. "Indeed, raising a family and bringing a litter of kits with promise into Thunderclan is a wonderful way for a she-cat and tom to do even more for the Clan than what they already have done as a warrior." He smiled encouragingly at Pumpkinflower. "You would make a wonderful mother, and I'm sure your kits would be just as wonderful, and a blessing to our Clan." He meowed happily, before realizing that, coming from a tom like himself, that might have come out a little weird. He wasn't overly worried about it, because he knew that Pumpkinflower understood what he meant. He only wanted to wish Pumpkinflower the best, and encourage her to follow her own dreams and wishes. As long as she was happy, he knew he could be happy for her.

Pumpkinflower gave her body a shake the dew from her pelt. "I want to thank you for being here for me, Howlingwind. I meant it. You've always been here for me." She meowed kindly and lend over to lick his check.
"We could be happy you know, I could make you happy. I know it wouldn't be the same love we had for our mates, but I think they would want us to be happy..." Pumpkinflower meowed in a quiet voice not looking at Howlingwind or anything in general. She was tired of being alone, she wanted someone to be there for her and her for them.

Howlingwind purred and closed his eyes blissfully, then gazed over again at Pumpkinflower. "And I must thank you for always being here for me, you know. I'll always continue to be there for you whenever you need me." He purred. He knew that they both had always been there for each other, and because of that, he was certain that Pumpkinflower was a cat he held as dear to him as his kits, Emberpaw and Brightpaw. They had both lost their first mates, and now had only each other to support.
He breathed deeply, gazing off at the rising sun thoughtfully at Pumpkinflower's suggestion. Pumpkinflower was his best friend, a she-cat whom he cared for more than just a very good friend. Whenever he had ever felt down, or lonely, Pumpkinflower had always been there for him, and whenever Pumpkinflower had been feeling sad or alone, he was always sure to be there for her in any way that he could. "...I think so too." He meowed softly. "I think they would want us to be happy, and not be sad anymore. And it could only be you..." He meowed, his voice growing stronger with confidence. "You've always been here for me. You're the only one that can make me feel at peace." His voice grew soft again as the words became more tender, yet flowing with honesty.
"I will continue to always love you, Pumpkinflower, and if you'd take a tom like me, then I will protect you forever, and make you happy too!" Howlingwind looked at Pumpkinflower, his amber eyes shining, reflecting the rays of the rising sun, his proposal clear even in the patter of the rain that was beginning to fade away.

Pumpkinflower purred lightly at Howlingwind's proposal. "You have been here with me, since the very beginning. I shall be there with you in the end." She meowed carefully to Howlingwind. She pressed her pelt with his. Clearly, accepting him as her new mate.
She was glad, because they were perfect for each other. All the weirdness was long gone because they've always been close. Closer than more cats non related cats. "I think this will be good for us. To build a new life together; you, me, Emberpaw, and Brightpaw. Then, in the future, more kits to grace ThunderClan..." She meowed, then licked Howlingwind's shoulder in comfort.

There were no words to describe the wonderful feelings that grew warm within him, as if a soft, gentle fire was glowing brighter and brighter. For so long had he been alone since Whitesplash's death, and before he had even met his first mate too. Now he had finally found someone whom he could give his heart to, knowing that it would be safe. His deep purr rumbled like the thunder that would crash in the sky, as if proclaiming a big celebration. He wasn't even as surprised as he thought he would be to this new situation, because there could be no one else than Pumpkinflower to be his mate. They had been closer than almost any other two cats in the Clan, and seeing Pumpkinflower in this new, wonderful way, only seemed natural.
Howlingwind closed his eyes slowly, and nodded. Leaning over, he let their pelts press into each other, and affectionately licked her forehead. "I'm sure this will only be for the best." he meowed, smiling optimistically. Then, in a softer voice, he meowed. "Yes, we'll built it together." His last words weren't sufficient enough to say all the things he could honestly say at this point, but in reality, he knew that they both knew that words were hardly necessary at this moment.

Pumpkinflower purred kindly pressing her body against his, partly for warmth and the other half for affection. This felt very right - normal. This was actually the first time in a long time, she's been happy. Truly happy about something.
"I'm glad we decided to do this, Howlingwind. We complement each other really well." She purred to her mate.
